If you already had a Gnosis Pay card before you found Picnic, whether through the Gnosis Pay app or another app, you don't need to order a new card or open a second Gnosis Pay account. You can bring the card you already have into the Picnic app.
That works because a Gnosis Pay account doesn't belong to the app that created it. It belongs to you, and it lives in a smart account on the Gnosis network. Whoever is listed as an owner of that account controls it. For Picnic to show your balance and your transactions and to move money on the card, Picnic's address has to be on that list.
Before you start
You'll need:
- access to the wallet you already use on your Gnosis Pay account, whether through the Gnosis Pay app or the wallet you connected when you created it, because only it can authorize a new owner
- the same email address on both sides
Step 1: create your Picnic account with the same email
Download Picnic and sign up with exactly the same email you use on Gnosis Pay. That's what lets us recognize both accounts as yours.
If you already have a Picnic account under a different email, talk to us in the chat before going further.
Step 2: copy your Picnic account address
Open https://usepicnic.com/app/card/gnosis-pay-link and sign in to your Picnic account. The page shows your Picnic account address on the Gnosis network, a string starting with 0x, along with a summary of these steps. Tap Copy.
That address is yours alone, so we can't print it here: each person sees their own on that page.
The same address also appears inside the app, on the screen Picnic shows when it sees that your email already has a Gnosis Pay account.
Step 3: add Picnic as an owner of your Gnosis Pay account
Open gnosispay.com and connect the wallet that already controls your Gnosis Pay account. That wallet, and only that wallet, can authorize a new owner.
If you use an ordinary wallet
MetaMask, Rainbow, Coinbase Wallet and the like. This is straightforward: click Connect Wallet, pick your wallet and approve the connection.
If your account is controlled by a smart account
Some wallets aren't a plain address but a smart account, also called a Safe. An ordinary wallet can't present a Safe, so the connection won't work.
For that case we recommend Rabby, which can:
- Install Rabby, only from
rabby.ioor the Chrome Web Store under the publisher DeBank - Import the wallet that owns the Safe
- Go to Add Institutional / Safe, choose Gnosis Safe, paste the Safe's address and select the Gnosis network
- Switch Rabby's active account to the Safe by clicking the avatar and selecting it, and only then connect at gnosispay.com
Careful: connect the wallet that signs in to your Gnosis Pay account, never the card's own address. The card's address is controlled by programs rather than by a person, so Rabby will ask for a signature nobody can give, with the message "Need 1 more signatures to confirm". If you see that, you picked the wrong account: go back and switch.
With the right wallet connected
- Open Account > Account details > Account Owners
- Tap Edit, then Add address
- Paste the Picnic address you copied in step 2 and save
- Confirm the transaction in your wallet
Confirmation takes about 3 minutes. You also need a small amount of xDAI in the signing wallet to cover the network cost.
Important: adding Picnic does not remove the access you already had. If you want only Picnic, remove the old owner after you've confirmed everything works here, never before.
Step 4: go back to Picnic
Open Picnic again and go to the card area. Your card, your balance and your history show up on their own. Because Gnosis Pay already verified your identity, you don't have to redo verification or order a new card.
If you still see the same message, wait a few minutes and try again. The new owner has to be confirmed on the network before Picnic can read your account.
What changes and what doesn't
- It's the same card. Same number, same expiry, same plastic. Nothing is cancelled and nothing is reissued.
- Your balance stays where it is. It never leaves your Gnosis Pay account.
- Cashback doesn't stack. Each app runs its own program and you take part in one at a time.
- Never use the option to delete or reset your Gnosis Pay account. It exists for a different purpose and it breaks the link to your card.
